The player brings Tetris to Cities: Skylines in Stop Motion

Tetris Arrived in Cities: Skylines, thanks to the single player’s creative use of stop motion and in-game screenshots to put together a short clip that drew a lot of attention from the city builder community.

It all unfolds against a somewhat flowery backdrop, reminiscent of a welcoming lawn or garden in which to relax. Tetris pieces leave their box at the top of a green rectangular square, and gently work their way to the bottom. When they form a full row, they flash before disappearing.

the Stop motion clip The post on Reddit is as familiar as anyone who has played Tetris before while introducing any Cities: Skylines game might not have tried the venerable game with its rather simple concept.

As far as creating it goes, ToadieZ user Explain that they “Take screenshots instead of video and it was easy to put together” Assemble everything in about an hour.

Of course, the passage itself contains other elements of Cities: Skylines fans will easily recognize, such as the colors of the Tetris pieces that resemble those of the different regions or the Chirpy sound that plays when a row is completed.

ToadieZ’s vocals along with the Tetris soundtrack contribute to what makes the clip so fun to watch.

“This is really cool stop motion. Well done,” Top comment reads at time of writing.

Better yet, this may not be the only release we get. When the user indicated that only the completed rows should be flashed instead of the full set, ToadieZ answered as follows: “I learned this 5 minutes after I finished editing and was really frustrated with myself. I’ll do a better job when I rework it in C:S2, I promise.”

While it looks like we may be getting more stop-motion later this year alongside the city builder sequel to Colossal Order, other users have responded by saying they’d like to see a mod that actually allows us to play Tetris in Cities: Skylines.

If it weren’t for the original, maybe we’ll see it become a reality after Cities: Skylines 2 is finally released.
