Evil Geniuses defeat Paper Rex, and advance to the VCT Masters Tokyo Grand Finals

In a thrilling final match at the Tokyo World Cup, Evil Geniuses prevailed with a 3-2 victory over Paper Rex. Although Evil Geniuses are the favourites, the unpredictable nature of the Paper Rex team meant that any outcome was within the realm of possibility. The match itself was as intense as it gets, pushing both teams to their limits before EG closed out the series on the fifth map.

Evil Geniuses kicked off a best-of-five series with a resounding 13-7 win on the map Fracture, extending their winning streak on this map to 5-0 at the Tokyo Masters. The Pacific Champions struck back on Map 2, picking up a narrow win. The catalyst behind PRX’s win over Lotus was Jinggg, who placed on the Raze Masterclass to close out the map. Building on this momentum, PRX picked up another win over Split after recovering from a 7-1 deficit.

With their backs to the wall, EG turned the tide of the match with a dominant win over Pearl, thanks to Boostio’s flawless performance on Killjoy. After four maps filled with grueling competition, it looked like anyone’s game, but EG had some momentum after they won Map 4.

However, it was the Singaporean organization who initially gained the upper hand in the final map, taking a 3-0 lead. When the Pacific dream seemed to be on the horizon, the North Americans put in an economy run to make it 3-1. From that point on, EG never looked back. After finishing the first half 8-4, EG went on to comfortably secure the map in the second half, sealing BO5 in their favour.

With this win, Evil Geniuses ended Paper Rex’s miraculous run and secured a spot in the Grand Finals of the Valorant International event for the first time ever. Awaiting them in the Grand Finals are EMEA giants, FNATIC, who are determined to add another international LAN trophy to their season’s prize pool.
