An argument leads to a shooting in North St. Louis County; A nearby officer makes a quick arrest Traveling Admin, June 16, 2023 street. LOS COUNTY, Missouri — An officer quickly arrested an accused gunman in a shooting incident in North St. Louis County last week, following a verbal argument. The shooting took place on June 10 on the 7000 lot of Page Avenue in Bagdale. An officer was on stationary patrol from his police car when he reportedly witnessed the gunman shoot another man in the leg. The officer was aware of the accused gunman and arrested him moments after the shooting. Police say he used a silver and black 9mm JA 9mm pistol in the shooting, which was recovered as evidence. “This is great policing by our officers,” said Bagdale Police Chief Anthony Huckleberry. “This officer was proactive in the community and helped get a dangerous person off the street and keep our citizens safe.” Guns are not a solution to a personal dispute. “Whatever was said on the street, it wasn’t worth sending one person to the hospital and another person to jail,” said St. Louis County District Attorney Wesley Bell. Prosecutors charged Zachary Carter, 54, with first-degree assault and armed criminal activity. Carter is jailed in St. Louis County on a $350,000 cash bond only. The victim was taken to hospital and sustained injuries to his right upper thigh. Before he was shot, he was in a verbal altercation with Carter about undisclosed matters. If convicted, Carter could serve up to 45 years in prison.
